Tree to table is the essence of my work. I utilize local trees that would otherwise be firewood or taken to a landfill to create sustainable esthetically pleasing wood art. I embrace custom projects and build many unique ready to use art pieces. I perform all aspects of the process from the felling of the trees to the finishes and everything in between. I’m committed to sustainable practices and using only the highest quality non-toxic fillers and finishes. My shop runs on 100% solar electricity. I create art you can truly feel good about.
Angelo’s Story
I grew up around carpentry and building projects. My parents built two homes with the help of friends and family before I was 9 years old. In my teens I started becoming a little more serious about building projects, everything from speaker boxes, BMX bikes and V8 engine rebuilds to running home electrical wiring and roofing projects. By the time I was in college I was learning from my uncles how to refinish cabinets, pour concrete and build a post and beam house. After working with a good friend building homes for a few years in the late 90's I started my own business, Home Made LLC in the early 2000's. After 20 years in the trades I was ready for a change and began to build live edge furniture.
In 2008 I used a sawmill to build a large post and beam addition to a home. I milled everything, two sides of each post, all the framing lumber, trim, utilizing local Fir, ponderosa pine and aspen. After that, I had the bug. I wanted to mill all kinds of trees. Any tree I saw someone cutting down that looked like good milling wood I would ask to buy or trade for it. I became more savvy to the local hardwoods that we have in the Durango area, procuring a large maple, several cottonwoods, some oak, elm, apricot, locust and a black walnut tree that a farmer needed to have removed.
I embrace the art of letting the wood shine. I feel like what I do is simply allow the wood to speak. I gaze at it, listen to it and use all the techniques I know of to help others fall in love with the natural beauty of grain, shape, figuring, knots and all the rest of the gorgeous aspects these former trees have to offer.
